Faces that are… not quite right can trigger some kind of primal fear in us, and there are plenty of them to be had in horror films

1. The Exorcist

Exorcist15I found Regan especially freaky when she had only been possessed a short time and she wasn’t full on Pazuzu-ed.

2. Insidious

9807598354_63c4ac3e15_bThe smiling family were the worst.

3. Let the Right One In

9202606568_d13e074160_bI commented on this in a previous post but it’s really disturbing when Eli’s face shifts subtly and you don’t know if you saw it or not but it’s freaky.

4. Prince of Darkness

6872751862_074c4ca849_bThis guy sticks around long enough to impart a message of doom and then dissolved into bugs. Ick.

5. Valerie and Her Week of Wonders

7331641528_e15a326c59_bThe vampire priest is super creepy. I think it’s the teeth.

6. Uzumaki

8010494072_d8e1cfd4de_bA film about a town that’s taken over by spirals. This guy’s in the process of turning into a giant slug.

7. Sleepaway Camp

SleepawayCamp13It’s awful but I love this film. Angela’s face at the end is the worst.

8. The Ring

The post-Samara faces of the victims were the best thing about the remake. You only get brief glimpses of them but GOOD GOD.

9. Pet Sematary

Fucking Zelda.

10. Psycho

Psycho22When the shadow of Mother’s skull is superimposed onto Norman’s face.

I am at a party tomorrow and so won’t be able to post the last entry on my Advent Calendar until Friday. But then that just makes Halloween last longer, so hopefully no one will mind. Have a great time, whatever you’re doing!
